What is recycling?
Recycling is the overall process of collecting and converting waste materials into new products that would otherwise be thrown into the trash. Recycling is very beneficial to your community and the environment. Carolina Metals Group is a single-source provider for all your recycling needs. Our privately held company has over 70 years of experience in the recycling industry, and our primary focus is on landfill avoidance.
What are the benefits of recycling?
- It reduces the overall waste sent off to landfills
- It helps conserve natural resources
- It prevents pollution by decreasing the need to collect new raw materials
- It saves energy
- It conserves many valuable resources
- It helps create jobs in the recycling and manufacturing businesses
How can you determine what can be recycled?
To begin, look for the recycling symbol on your items. Plastic containers labeled #1 or #2 can be recycled, as well as cardboard drink carriers and paper sleeves. Aluminum, such as cans and tins, can be recycled as long as they are empty, clean, and dry.
A common misconception is that all takeout items can be recycled. This is not true! A cardboard pizza box with grease and cheese in it needs to be thrown away. Paper napkins, paper towels, and plant-based cutlery cannot be recycled either.
Lastly, foam containers, plastic utensils, condiment packets, and plastic bags cannot be recycled. If possible, the use of these materials needs to be limited in order to cut down on the amount of trash you accumulate. Coated paper containers also need to be thrown away because the coating that makes the paper “waterproof” is unrecyclable.
